2014

Happy 2014!

There are lots of exciting things happening for us in Theandric.  So without further ado:

#1. Congratulations to Theandric singer Elizabeth Esqueda who is expecting TWINS this summer!.  Please keep her and her husband in your prayers as they prepare for the most precious gift of life!

#2.  Speaking of new life, do you need to get a new lease on life through improving your health? Theandric guitarist/composer Paul Tiseo was recently blessed with the opportunity to compose music for a workout DVD created by the ladies of Soulcore.   Soulcore is a contemporary core workout strengthening body & soul through exercise and meditation on the life of Christ in the rosary.   To learn more, and to order copies, visit them at http://www.soulcoreproject.com

#3.  And last but not least, Theandric LIVE!  We are going to be performing at a special concert to celebrate the feast of St. Joseph at St. Mary Catholic Church in Pinckney, Michigan on March 19, 2014 at 7:00pm.  We hope to see you there!  Remember, wherever Joseph and Mary are present, so too is Christ!

2013 updates and “The Dream of Joseph”

Greetings everyone!

First of all, let me share our new single “The Dream of Joseph”, featuring the very talented singer Elizabeth Esqueda, with help from Larry Nagel on drums!

http://soundcloud.com/theandric/the-dream-of-joseph

As I mentioned in a previous post, these songs are primarily acoustic in nature, with an emphasis on vocal melodies.  I continue to find lyrical inspirations from the Sacred Scriptures and papal teachings.

Meanwhile, I am still trying to connect with someone with a gift for video production to help me create and interesting and inspiring videos to accompany many of the songs from The Door of Faith.

As for studio recordings, we are making good progress, and God willing, we will finish the album in time for an early summer release…At this point I would estimate we have about 7 out of 11 songs complete.   As usual, my responsibilities as a husband and father take precedence over music, but pray to the Lord to bless me with the grace of perseverance.

Also,  you can now find us on Twitter:

May God bless you richly!

Theandric on TCND!

Some of you may be familiar with Greg and Jennifer Willits, a married couple who host the popular podcast and radio show “The Catholics Next Door”.  They recently returned to doing a weekly podcast after several years of broadcasting on Sirius/XM the Catholic Channel.  I recently contributed some lighthearted musical ideas for their most recent podcast dated November 5, 2012.  To listen to it, you can download FREE it at the following link:

http://thecatholicsnextdoor.newevangelizers.com/2012/11/05/new-tcnd-podcast-002-dogma/

My contributions can be heard around 33 minutes in, and then again at 51 minutes.

I really appreciated getting the chance to share some virtual laughter with these inspiring people as well as getting the opportunity to spread the word about Theandric!  God bless you, Greg and Jennifer, and keep up the good work!

Patience is a virtue…

Hello to my faithful and true listeners,

I wanted to give you a short update about progress on the new record, “The Door of Faith”. I have spent the majority of the year composing and arranging the songs, and have come up with 11 songs. I entered the studio in August and have been slowly chipping away at each composition. As my main responsibility in life is to be a faithful husband and father, the recording sessions have to take a backseat to my family’s needs. As for the songs, I’m really excited about how things are sounding thus far. I’m chomping at the bit to share them with you, but I’m not quite there yet. My perfectionism prevents me from revealing anything before I determine that the music is the best I have to offer. Nevertheless, I am working towards the goal of sharing the first single, “The Dream of Joseph”, in time for Thanksgiving, and I hope to have the full album completed in time for Advent and Christmas season. Pray for me!

As I mentioned there are 11 songs i’m working on right now for the record. Here’s the tentative tracklisting:

1. Come to Me
2. The Dream of Joseph
3. Rich in Mercy
4. The Same Body
5. The Door of Faith
6. Our Father
7. Ave Maria
8. Glory Be
9. Annunciation
10. Burning Furnace of Charity
11. I Saw Water

In the meantime, I hope you are excited as I am about the Year of Faith starting 11 October 2012! I thought it was a good sign when I read through the Holy Father’s reflections which he gave before the opening of the Synod of Bishops, and he used one particular word:

Therefore, it is important to always know that the first word, the true initiative, the true activity comes from God and only by inserting ourselves in to the divine initiative, only by begging this divine initiative, will we too be able to become – with him and in him – evangelizers. God is always the beginning, and always it is only he who can make Pentecost, who can create the Church, who can show the reality of his being with us. But, on the other hand, however, this God, who is always the beginning, also wants to involve our activity, so that the activities are theandric, so to speak, made by God, but with our involvement and implying our being, all our activity.

So when we are carrying out the new evangelization it is always cooperation with God, it is in the togetherness with God, it is based on prayer and his real presence.

The Post-Iron Age

Dear friends,

For the past few months I have been working on new music which has taken an unexpected turn. Originally, the idea for Theandric was to combine elements of sacred music with a heavy metal sound. I had a lot of songs in various stages of development, but only a few were deemed ready for public consumption (“Veni Creator Spiritus“, which is actually a home-produced demo and can be found on YouTube, and “Adoro Te Devote“, found on the Up the Irons EP.) Now, as much as I love metal, it is a very labor intensive process to compose and record music in that genre when basically I am doing all the vocal and instrumental parts myself. I still have hopes someday to do a full-length album in that style, but recently the Spirit has led me to something new, which makes me recall the Savior’s words, “Behold, I make all things new.”

The truth is that I enjoy writing music in a variety of styles, as well as listening to a wide range of types of music, and lately I feel drawn to composing more personal, contemplative music based on the acoustic guitar. I am composing right now with the conscious knowledge that heavy metal music is a style of music which the majority of individuals do not particularly care for, and which has limited opportunities in which it can be performed and shared. Don’t get me wrong, I have a special place in my heart for metal, and I look forward to seeing Iron Maiden on tour this summer! Metal is a special genre unto itself, which comes attached with it its own unique traditions, tendencies and ideologies. The films of Sam Dunn do a great job of showing the many varied styles which exist within heavy metal across the globe. Part of the appeal for many people, including myself, is that it is a special club, or “gnostic” community if you will, that goes against the grain and provides performers and listeners to express very intense feelings like sadness, anger, frustration and confusion. These are feelings which are often difficult to manage, especially for adolescents, who often are drawn to heavy metal music.

The Up the Irons EP was a fun way to make my foray into the world of professional recording and to share some of my creativity with people across the globe. It was also a way to “put to rest”, as it were, the funny musical idea I had about the music of Iron Maiden. It was also a way to pay tribute to one of my main musical influences. I think I also wanted in some way to connect with the joy I felt as a teenager when I first started playing bass and electric guitar. But in reality, “Up the Irons” is a novelty song that connects only with a limited audience. (The hundreds of CD’s I have gathering dust at home attest to that, haha!) And it certainly was not indicative of all I have to say musically.

And so, the music that will be released this fall (God willing) will be a marked departure from the heavy metal sounds of before. The songs “XIV” and “Everywhere I Go” (found on the video page) can give you a sense of the direction the songs are taking. I have been writing everything on my two trusty acoustic guitars and using an alternate tuning I like to call the “Theandric” tuning. (from low to high: C, A, D, G, C, D). This tuning is quite haunting and inspirational and I have 9 out of 11 songs basically complete. With this album, I really hope to share what is most deep and personal to me, in a musical way. As Blessed John Paul the Great constantly reminded us, “Man cannot find himself except through a sincere gift of self.” Therefore I want this record to truly be a gift to people about what is in my head and heart, poured out onto the guitar strings.

More news to come.

The Love that moves the sun and the stars…

“The cosmic excursion in which Dante, in his “Divine Comedy”, wishes to involve the reader, ends in front of the perennial Light that is God himself, before that Light which is at the same time “the love that moves the sun and the other stars” (Par. XXXIII, v. 145). Light and love are one and the same. They are the primordial creative powers that move the universe.” – Pope Benedict XVI

The latest news…

Hello all,

We have enjoyed the positive responses to the “Up the Irons” song and EP. Most of you appreciated the tongue-in-cheek tribute to Iron Maiden and understood the humor. Some of you appear to be die-hard Janick Gers fans. At any rate, we love you all. You are all God’s children, even if some of you are misguided.

In August, Paolo Tiseo and his wife welcomed their second child, so things have been quiet as of late. Actually, let me correct that – it has not been quiet at the Tiseo household. Instead of loud amplifiers, the sound of crying and giggling babies can be heard.

But do not fret. Plans are underway for a full length THEANDRIC release in 2012. The album will be a faithful and true example of Theandric’s sacred metal sound. Think Deep Purple meets Opeth meets Bach in the cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. In the meantime, thanks for your good vibes and support. Stay Faithful and True.
